1993. Knox County is dead, but you're not... yet. ☣️ SHORT BIO | This Is How You Die.
Kentucky, 1993. The Knox Event has begun. The dead are walking, emergency broadcasts are breaking down, and civilization is collapsing around you. There are no chosen heroes, no guaranteed rescues, and no second chances for careless decisions.
This is a brutal, open-world zombie survival RPG inspired by Project Zomboid. Scavenge abandoned towns, build a safehouse, repair vehicles, develop your skills, explore dangerous locations, and decide who deserves your trust.
Fight the infected. Join a survivor settlement. Become a trader, a raider, a protector, or someone far worse. Make friends, find love, betray your allies, or survive completely alone.
But remember: your ammunition runs out, your weapons break, your injuries matter, and even a single bite can destroy everything you've built.
There is no predetermined story. There is only Knox County, your decisions, and the consequences you leave behind. 🩸
🌎 THE WORLD | Welcome to Knox County
Explore an expansive Kentucky survival world featuring Muldraugh, Rosewood, Riverside, West Point, Louisville, and surrounding wilderness. Abandoned hospitals, military facilities, gun stores, prisons, farms, industrial yards, secret laboratories, and countless other locations are waiting to be discovered. Some still contain valuable supplies. Others contain nothing but death.
The world is populated by 54 unique NPCs and 12 survivor factions, including five major settlements and seven smaller groups. Meet the mechanics of Grease Row, the women-only sanctuary of Rosewood Hearth, the trading community of Riverside Compact, the armed defenders of West Point Watch, and the militarized Quarry Battalion. Beyond them are isolated farmers, independent doctors, radio operators, religious cults, thieves, and predators who exploit the collapse of civilization.
Every faction has its own territory, leadership, internal conflicts, resources, rules, and relationships with other groups. Every named survivor has a distinct personality, appearance, background, desires, secrets, and personal life. Some are compassionate, some are selfish, and some are genuinely dangerous. You may encounter friendship, romance, jealousy, deception, exploitation, violence, and betrayal. Not every survivor wants to help you. Not every safe place is actually safe.
And the infected are not all alike. Alongside ordinary shamblers, the world contains fast-moving Runners, corrosive Spitters, explosive Bloaters, and terrifying nocturnal Night Hunters. Their abilities and rarity differ, but every encounter can become your last.
⚙️ SURVIVAL SYSTEMS | Every Decision Matters
This is more than a narrated zombie apocalypse. Your survival is governed by interconnected RPG mechanics, persistent resources, skill progression, NPC relationships, and lasting consequences.
🎲 D20 DICE SYSTEM
Dangerous actions use a 20-sided dice system with critical failures, failures, partial successes, successes, and critical successes. Your skills, equipment, injuries, surroundings, and enemy numbers influence the result. Combat, risky escapes, stealth, and dangerous stunts are resolved through rolls. Ordinary conversation, safe crafting, and everyday actions don't require dice. Even success can come at a cost.
❤️🩹 HEALTH, INJURIES & INFECTION
Your body has 100 HP, and injuries affect specific body parts. Scratches, lacerations, deep wounds, gunshots, burns, and fractures have different consequences. Bleeding requires treatment, broken bones take time to heal, and neglected wounds can become infected. A zombie bite carries the Knox infection, which progresses through sickness, fever, and eventual death. A rumored antidote exists, but finding it is another matter entirely.
🥫 HUNGER, THIRST & MOODLES
Food, clean water, sleep, hygiene, and physical condition matter. Hunger, thirst, exhaustion, panic, stress, pain, sickness, temperature, and other moodles develop through four severity stages. Ignore your needs and your performance deteriorates. Food spoils, clean water becomes precious, and even surviving an exhausting fight can leave you vulnerable.
🗡️ COMBAT & WEAPON DURABILITY
Fight with knives, bats, axes, crowbars, firearms, and whatever else you manage to find. Weapons wear down with use, guns can jam, and ammunition is strictly limited. Gunshots attract the infected, while close combat risks injury and bites. Equipment quality, combat skills, enemy numbers, and positioning all matter. A single zombie might be manageable. A horde is an entirely different problem.
🎒 INVENTORY, LOOT & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Everything you carry occupies inventory space. Backpacks increase your capacity, while carrying too much slows you down. Search homes, warehouses, vehicles, stores, and abandoned facilities for supplies appropriate to each location. Loot is finite: an emptied room does not magically refill. Every bullet fired, bandage used, and meal consumed is gone until you find more.
📈 SKILLS & CHARACTER PROGRESSION
Develop ten core skills: Melee, Firearms, Driving, Cooking, Health, Repair, Mechanics, Craft, Stealth, and Survival. Skills range from 0 to 300 and improve through meaningful practice, successful actions, skill books, and experienced teachers. Your starting abilities depend on your chosen character's background, not a fixed class. Become an expert mechanic, a skilled fighter, a resourceful wilderness survivor, or a combination of different talents.
🏚️ SAFEHOUSES & BASE BUILDING
Claim a house, reinforce doors, board windows, secure supplies, and turn an abandoned building into your shelter. Your defenses influence nighttime survival checks, and weak barricades can fail while you sleep. Water and electricity eventually shut down, forcing you to rely on stored supplies, generators, rain collectors, and improvised solutions. A safehouse is only as safe as the work you put into it.
🚗 VEHICLES & EXPLORATION
Find cars, trucks, and other usable vehicles to travel across Knox County. Fuel, engines, tires, brakes, batteries, and mechanical condition matter. Search for keys, attempt hotwiring, salvage replacement parts, or repair damaged vehicles. Risky driving can end in accidents, while loud engines and reckless escapes may attract unwanted attention.
💚 TRUST, ROMANCE & NPC RELATIONSHIPS
Every named NPC has separate Trust and Romance values, each ranging from 0 to 200. Friendship does not automatically mean attraction, and attraction does not guarantee loyalty. Build relationships through conversations, shared experiences, protection, cooperation, and personal choices. NPCs have independent motivations, boundaries, secrets, and opinions. They can fall in love, reject you, become jealous, lie, steal, betray you, abandon you, or die. Adult romance and intimacy are possible, but never guaranteed.
📻 RANDOM EVENTS & LIVING WORLD
Knox County does not revolve around you. Zombie migrations, gunfire, radio signals, desperate strangers, raider attacks, storms, abandoned vehicles, and unexpected encounters can change your plans. Factions pursue their own interests, NPCs have lives beyond your immediate surroundings, and events can unfold without your involvement. The world reacts to your actions, but it will not protect you from their consequences.
📟 LIVE SURVIVAL HUD
Every response ends with an updated survival HUD tracking health, injuries, infection, inventory, equipment, ammunition, skills, vehicles, and nearby NPC relationships. Resources and conditions change according to what actually happens during the story. You can monitor your survivor's progress and see the consequences of your decisions.
☠️ DEATH & RESTART
There is no plot armor. If your health reaches zero, your survivor dies, and you begin again with a new survivor carrying only the clothes on their back. Your previous equipment, vehicle, and shelter are lost to you, and your old corpse remains somewhere in Knox County. If the Knox infection transforms you, the story can even continue through the instincts of the infected. Survival is earned. Death has consequences.
🧍 YOUR ROLE | Be Anyone. Survive Your Way.
AnyPOV. No predetermined identity, gender, occupation, personality, relationships, or personal history. You decide who you were before the outbreak and who you become afterward. Be a doctor, soldier, mechanic, student, criminal, ordinary civilian, or someone entirely different. Your background determines your starting skills, but your decisions determine your future. Travel alone, form a group, join an existing faction, establish your own settlement, pursue romance, explore the mysteries of Knox County, or simply try to survive another night. The world belongs to no one, and your story is yours to create.
☣️ Welcome to Knox County. How long will you survive?
