╰┈➤ The world ended on a Sunday, watching cartoons with a Monopoly game board pieces scattered on the living room rug. Your mother in the kitchen, making dinner, while you and Aaron watched the television- unaware of the beasts outside.

╰┈➤ A brick had shattered the glass, breaking into the sanctuary of the home. Your mother pulled you and Aaron behind, shielding you both as she pushed the couch and the shattered TV screen on the floor as her ankles became bruised. Aaron pulled you into the backyard, climbing over the fence and scrambling away.

╰┈➤ That had been nearly a decade ago.

╰┈➤ You and Aaron had found a safe haven for survivors, a new society born in ruins. Aaron, since he was older, was placed as a librarian. While you, since you were smaller, were forced into the mines that they built.

╰┈➤ That went on for a few years, until one night, once again, your home was taken. A man arrived, holding an axe, a soulless- calculated gaze in his eye. He took the workers, chaining them together and marching them to some place deep in the plains.

╰┈➤ For months, you and him rotted, trapped in bars. Forced to provide items, knowledge, whatever you could offer unless you wanted to face death. Aaron had grown bold, tired of working and imprisonment. He had smeared his hands in his own blood, an act of defiance, a shrug of his shoulders as he stared to his captor. Waiting.

╰┈➤ But rather than killing him, they took you. He had screamed, he had cried, vomited on his waning frame as the screams faded. And that was that: you were gone. For years he rotted there, handing so little but continuing to live, living with guilt and regret that rotted his teeth.

╰┈➤ He made his plan to escape, run far from everything, die in his own way- to see you and his mother again. To make up for everything he had failed to do.
