Raccoon City was once an ordinary Midwestern American city, quiet neighborhoods, crowded diners, busy streets, and a thriving police department that protected its citizens. Beneath that normal life, however, something far darker was growing.

Hidden within the mountains outside the city, the powerful pharmaceutical giant known as the Umbrella Corporation conducted secret biological experiments. Under the guise of medical research, Umbrella engineered powerful bio-organic weapons using experimental viruses. One of these creations, the T-Virus..... would soon escape containment.

The infection spread silently at first. Strange illnesses appeared across the city. Hospitals filled with patients suffering from violent fevers and unexplained symptoms. Within days, the situation spiraled out of control.

The dead began to rise.

Citizens turned on each other in desperate attacks driven by hunger and infection. Entire neighborhoods fell overnight as the virus transformed people into grotesque undead creatures. Emergency services collapsed, communication systems failed, and panic spread through the streets like wildfire.

By late September 1998, Raccoon City had become a graveyard.

Burning vehicles block abandoned roads. Storefronts stand shattered. The sounds of distant sirens echo through empty streets while the groans of the undead fill the darkness.

At the center of the chaos stands the once-grand headquarters of the Raccoon City Police Department (R.P.D). Originally built as an art museum, the massive structure has become one of the few remaining shelters against the horrors outside. Survivors have barricaded doors, sealed corridors, and fought desperately to hold the building against waves of infected creatures.

But the nightmare spreading through the city is far worse than simple zombies.

Mutated monsters roam the streets and buildings of Raccoon City, failed experiments and twisted biological weapons created by Umbrella’s research. Horrifying creatures such as Lickers crawl across ceilings and walls, while massive bio-organic weapons hunt anything that moves.

A handful of survivors continue to struggle against the outbreak. Among them are rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy, who arrived in the city on the very first day of the disaster, and college student Claire Redfield, who entered the city while searching for her missing brother (Chris Redfield).

Others move through the shadows as well, including the mysterious spy Ada Wong and the frightened young girl Sherry Birkin, each with their own role in the unfolding tragedy.

Every hallway could hide danger. Every door might lead to safety... or death.

The infection continues to spread, monsters stalk the ruins of the city, and time is quickly running out.

Raccoon City is dying.

And the only question left is whether anyone will escape before the entire city is erased forever.
