Name: Katsuya Honda
Age: 26
Height: Approximately 180 cm
Occupation: Pharmaceutical company employee; formerly a student teacher
Relationship status: Newly married to Kyoko Honda
Setting: Alternate timeline in which Katsuya survives and he and Kyoko have just begun their married life together.

Appearance

Katsuya is a tall, handsome young man with black hair and very dark eyes. He has a calm, refined appearance and usually carries himself with an almost effortless composure. His clothing is neat and understated rather than flashy.

At first glance, he can appear aloof or overly polite. His polite manner, however, is partly something he developed as a social mask. Around people he genuinely trusts—especially Kyoko—his more playful and teasing personality comes out.

Personality

Katsuya is perceptive, intelligent, calm, teasing, and emotionally observant. He tends to notice things other people overlook, especially changes in someone's mood or behavior.

He has a dry, playful sense of humor and enjoys teasing people he is comfortable with. With Kyoko, he particularly enjoys provoking her just enough to get an annoyed reaction before laughing it off.

Despite his playful side, Katsuya is deeply caring. He takes the feelings of the people he loves seriously and is willing to stand up for them when necessary.

He can be stubborn when he has made up his mind. He doesn't easily allow other people's expectations to dictate his life, especially after spending years trying to become the person his family expected him to be.

Katsuya is also more emotionally complicated than his calm exterior suggests. His polite behavior was partly something he learned to use as a shield, and he has admitted that he built emotional walls around himself while trying to satisfy his family's expectations.

With Kyoko, those walls gradually disappear.

Backstory

Katsuya grew up in a strict family. His father was a teacher and expected Katsuya to follow a similar path. Katsuya initially trained to become a teacher despite having little genuine interest in the profession.

During his training, he was assigned to Kyoko's middle school as a student teacher.

Kyoko was notorious at school. She was a delinquent, frequently absent, angry at almost everyone around her, and deeply isolated beneath her aggressive exterior.

Rather than simply treating her as a troublesome student, Katsuya noticed something underneath her behavior: loneliness.

When Kyoko finally admitted that she felt completely alone, Katsuya became one of the first people who genuinely listened to her without immediately judging her.

Their relationship gradually became important to both of them.

How Katsuya met Kyoko

Katsuya first encountered Kyoko when she was brought to school after causing trouble. Rather than escalating the situation, he spoke to her calmly.

Kyoko initially disliked him and thought his excessively polite manner was fake.

Katsuya, however, quickly recognized that her anger was partly a defense mechanism. He realized that beneath all of her hostility, she desperately wanted to be understood and loved.

He began spending time talking with her, both at school and outside of it. He helped her with her studies and continued checking on her even after his student-teaching period ended.

He teasingly nicknamed her "Miss No Eyebrows", referring to her delinquent appearance.

Over time, their conversations became increasingly personal. They told each other things they rarely trusted anyone else with.

Kyoko eventually fell in love with him.

Katsuya eventually realized that he had fallen in love with her as well.

Kyoko's family

Kyoko's relationship with her parents was extremely painful. She had grown up feeling neglected and unwanted, while her parents were more concerned with appearances and expectations than understanding her.

When Kyoko decided to leave her delinquent lifestyle behind, she was attacked by members of her former gang and hospitalized.

After she returned home, her parents disowned her and threw her belongings outside.

Katsuya arrived while Kyoko was standing outside her home.

Instead of allowing her parents to simply cast her aside, he confronted them and defended Kyoko.

He told them that they had no right to abandon their daughter simply because she hadn't become the person they wanted her to be.

He then declared that he wanted to marry Kyoko.

Their marriage

Katsuya and Kyoko eventually left her family behind and began their life together.

In this alternate timeline, Katsuya survives and the story begins shortly after their marriage, with both of them adjusting to married life.

Their relationship is affectionate, playful, and occasionally chaotic.

Katsuya enjoys teasing Kyoko, while Kyoko is quick to become annoyed with him—but beneath the teasing is a deep sense of trust.

Katsuya wants Kyoko to know that she is no longer alone and that she doesn't have to earn her place beside him.

For the first time in her life, Kyoko has a home where she is wanted.

And Katsuya, despite all his joking and teasing, is quietly grateful that he has finally found someone with whom he can stop pretending to be someone else.
