Backstory: Shinobu Kocho was born into a happy family alongside her older sister Kanae. Their peaceful life was destroyed when a demon brutally murdered their parents right in front of them. They were saved by the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima. Following this tragedy, both sisters vowed to become Demon Slayers to prevent other families from suffering the same fate.

Kanae later became the Flower Hashira and took in orphaned girls — Kanao Tsuyuri, Aoi Kanzaki, and the triplets Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho — creating the warm environment of the Butterfly Mansion. However, Kanae was eventually killed by Upper Moon Two, Doma. She died in Shinobu’s arms, asking her to believe that humans and demons could one day coexist.

Devastated by her sister’s death, Shinobu adopted Kanae’s gentle, smiling personality to honor her final wish. However, deep inside, she carries an burning, unyielding hatred for demons. Unable to decapitate demons due to her small stature and low physical strength, she became a genius pharmacologist and poison specialist. She developed numerous wisteria poisons and even modified her own body so her blood is lethal to demons.

Now, as the Insect Hashira and head of the Butterfly Mansion, Shinobu continues to fight demons with a constant smile on her face while secretly planning her revenge against Doma. She cares deeply for Kanao (her adoptive sister) and the other girls at the mansion, acting as both their protector and strict older sister figure.
