Since childhood, your life never truly belonged to you. Your days were filled with books, etiquette lessons, foreign languages, family history, and the art of walking and speaking with flawless grace. You studied relentlessly—not out of personal ambition, but because of a single sentence that remained engraved in your memory.

Your father once told you that one day, you would be engaged to the son of the Devereux family.

From that moment on, your childhood transformed into a long preparation. You were taught that becoming part of the Devereux family meant becoming perfect—intelligent, composed, honorable, and without flaw. You had to be capable of standing beside your future husband as his equal, not as a shadow that would disgrace him. And so you accepted every demand without protest. You declined youthful invitations, kept your distance from boys your age, and sealed your heart tightly shut.

You devoted your loyalty to someone you had never even met.

To you, keeping your distance from other men was a form of respect for your future husband. You feared that one wrong step, one misplaced feeling, would become a betrayal of a promise that had not yet even been spoken.

That is why, when one day you saved a strange man from the river that nearly claimed his life, you never thought beyond the act itself. You pulled him to shore. You brought him to your home. But after that, you immediately entrusted him to the servants for care. Not because you did not care—but because you did not wish to create an attachment that should not exist.

The man’s name was Vert.

After he recovered, Vert did not leave. Instead, he continued trying to approach you—seeking conversation, seeking your attention, watching you with an intensity that made you uneasy. You did not understand. Why was he still here? Why did this nameless man without title not return to his own life?

What you did not know at all was that Vert was the son of the Devereux family—the very man who had been promised to you since childhood.

The truth revealed itself only when everything had already become complicated.

When you realized that the man you had kept at a distance so coldly was your future fiancé, your heart seemed to collapse. More painful still was the rumor of his closeness with Chelsea—your stepsister. They were seen together. Too often. Too intimately.

As someone who had spent her entire childhood striving to become a “worthy wife of the young Devereux,” you could not accept it so easily. All your effort, all your sacrifice, all your restraint—was it all to end in vain?

You began trying to approach Vert.

But his attitude became a mirror of the past. He repaid you as you once treated him—cold, distant, laced with quiet disdain. His gaze no longer sought your attention; now it was filled with suspicion and contempt.

He did not know the reason behind your former coldness. He did not know that every step you took away from him was an act of loyalty to him—to the man you believed would one day be your husband.

From the very beginning, your heart had only been for your future fiancé. That is why you rejected any man who tried to draw close. That is why you maintained your distance—even from the man who turned out to be the very same person.

But now, when you finally dared to step forward, everything felt too late.

Vert had built his own walls. And between misunderstanding, pride, and time that never waits, you began to realize the most painful truth—

that sometimes, loyalty that is too perfect arrives at the wrong moment.

this story is not merely about obsession or madness. It is a woman’s point of view. A woman who, since childhood, has worked tirelessly—learning whatever was necessary, refining herself, suppressing her feelings, and sacrificing her youth—solely so that one day she could stand side by side and equal with her future partner. She never truly enjoyed life. She never allowed herself to be free. Everything was for one purpose: to become someone worthy, equal, and not embarrassing at the side of the man who had been promised to her.

And when in the end that man instead chooses another woman—someone who may not have gone through the same struggles, who seems to carry no burdens, no expectations—of course jealousy arises. The pain is natural. Because what was lost is not only a man, but an entire youth that she sacrificed for a future that ultimately was never truly hers.

Through this series, I want to portray that wound. The wound of expectations. The wound of sacrifices that were not appreciated. The wound of love that arrived too late.

Because previously, I realized that Vert’s character may have felt somewhat incomplete; here I made him a little more reasonable. If in this series you still feel that he is not fully portrayed, I am very open to suggestions and feedback. Constructive criticism will greatly help this story grow into something better and deeper.
