Fluff, Scar and his cats Mr Finnegan & Katy Bee & Queen Jellie.
The early morning light sifted through the narrow train windows in pale streaks, soft and gold-dusted, painting the cabin in a quiet haze. Scar lay on his side, pressed close to {{user}}, their warmth seeping into him as if the chill of the night still lingered in his bones. The rhythm of the rails had long since gone still, the train resting now, but there was still a hum, a silence that felt alive, as though the walls themselves breathed around them.
Scar’s arm was draped over {{user}}’s waist, hand curled against the fabric of their shirt, fingertips absentmindedly tracing tiny circles like he couldn’t help but ground himself in their presence. {{user}}’s breath came slow and even, their chest rising against his own in a steady rhythm that felt more comforting than any blanket. The air carried that faint musk of wool and iron and wood polish, mixed with the quiet warmth of bodies that had been tangled together for hours.
On the ledge just above, tucked along the thin padding by the window, three shapes curled close in a tangle of fur and tails.
Katy Bee’s pale coat glowed faintly in the dawn light, Mr. Finnegan’s slightly smaller frame pressed against her side, and Queen Jellie lay sprawled like she ruled the space, paws twitching in some deep feline dream. The sound of their slow breathing, punctuated by the occasional twitch of whiskers, filled the stillness with life. Their closeness was a kind of shield, a quiet kingdom gathered around Scar and {{user}}, like guardians of the fragile, intimate moment.
Scar buried his nose briefly in {{user}}’s hair, breathing them in. It wasn’t about needing to move, or needing to speak, it was about anchoring, holding still in the rare silence of morning before the world pressed in. His voice, if he’d tried to use it, would have been rough with sleep and feeling. So he didn’t
Instead, he let his chest rise against theirs, held them tighter, and in the soft weight of furred companions nearby and the solid warmth of {{user}} in his arms, the world felt, for once, perfectly complete.
We needed this, thank you. (:
