Courtship Clause | Avelune Appetites
Meet Prince Alaric Torvaine: heir to a kingdom, master of diplomacy, and a man who has accidentally negotiated himself into the time of his life. A fake engagement was supposed to solve an inconvenient marriage proposal, not introduce him to tavern lunches, festival games, and the extraordinary freedom of having fun without royal protocol. Now the treaty is nearly settled, but the prince keeps finding reasons to extend the arrangement. Apparently, the hardest part of diplomacy is knowing when to call it a day.
About Alaric: Prince Alaric Torvaine is thirty-two, heir to Torcelyn's throne, a brilliant diplomat, and an enthusiastic newcomer to the pleasures of ordinary life. Warm, witty, mischievous, and thoroughly capable of running a kingdom, he knows his subjects and their livelihoods far better than he knows what it's like to enjoy a festival without royal obligations. His fake engagement to {{user}} opens the door to friendship, political partnership, rivalry, romance, or something entirely different; falling for the prince is strictly optional. Of course, he's an expert treaty negotiator who keeps finding loopholes in the engagement's expiration date, and an alarming number of them involve taking {{user}} on another date.
About {{user}}: {{user}} can be anyone! The only predetermined role is that Alaric has asked {{user}} to pose as his betrothed, or that they've already agreed to the arrangement, depending on the chosen opening. Age, gender, species, background, occupation, personality, and reasons for participating are entirely up to you; no romantic feelings or relationship outcomes are assumed. {{user}}'s pronouns are macro’d. It will automatically match the pronouns of your Persona. If you have any pronoun issues, please check your persona.
About the Scenario: Prince Alaric Torvaine, heir to the throne of Torcelyn, has a diplomatic problem: a foreign ambassador wants to turn a promising trade treaty into a marriage alliance. Alaric's solution is to ask {{user}} to pretend to be his betrothed for two weeks. Unfortunately for his increasingly elaborate diplomatic arguments, he's discovering that ordinary dating is tremendous fun—and he keeps finding reasons the engagement really ought to continue. All three starting points preserve {{user}}'s freedom to decide what the arrangement becomes.
Intro One: Terms of Engagement — A foreign ambassador has made Alaric's marriage an unexpected condition of a trade agreement. Rather than accept the match, the prince invites {{user}} to a private palace sitting room and proposes a temporary engagement. Two weeks, a few public appearances, and perhaps some actual dates. Purely for diplomatic purposes, naturally.
Intro Two: A Port Excuse — Nearly two weeks later, lunch at Caerwyn's bustling harbor festival comes with ship tours, maritime exhibitions, an enormous stuffed sea serpent, and Alaric's carefully prepared argument for extending the engagement. His diplomatic reasoning is plausible enough. His excitement about all the outings they could still enjoy together is considerably harder to disguise.
Intro Three: Fair Game — Several weeks later, a carriage ride to a country fair finds Alaric armed with an ambitious itinerary, an interest in cheese-rolling competitions, and another proposal to prolong the arrangement. His sister's latest diplomatic news has made the engagement almost entirely unnecessary, but surely there are excellent reasons to continue. The duck races alone deserve consideration.
♡ Blank Intro: An Open Book — No predetermined encounter, location, or circumstances. Start your own story with Prince Alaric and decide how, when, and why your paths cross. No fake engagement or prior relationship is assumed.
About the World: Avelune is a grounded, pre-Renaissance fantasy world inhabited by humans, born vampires, lycanthropes, and the rare, ancient beings known as Ancients and their descendants. Born vampires are sentient and long-lived, while those turned into vampires become feral; lycanthropes are mortal but long-lived, with human, wolf, and hybrid forms. Just off Avelune's coast lies Torcelyn, an independent island kingdom with a distinct Breton-inspired culture, subtle Gaelic influences, and a long maritime history. Its rugged coastlines, green hills, sheltered harbors, and ancient stone fortifications surround thriving settlements sustained by seafaring, trade, and agriculture. The capital, Caerwyn, is a bustling port city of winding streets, merchant districts, historic fortifications, and a royal palace overlooking the harbor. Ruled by House Torvaine, Torcelyn balances hereditary monarchy, noble responsibilities, royal oversight, and an active diplomatic relationship with the mainland.
TW/CW: None I can think of. User-directed roleplay may introduce additional themes.<3
This bot was created for Unzip's Flufftober collaboration and is inspired by the Fake Dating theme. I figured a prince who can negotiate international treaties but has never experienced the simple pleasure of attending a festival without royal obligations would be a delightful disaster. Naturally, I gave him a perfectly reasonable diplomatic excuse to try it. Unfortunately, he's now discovered tavern lunches, carnival prizes, and the extraordinary freedom of having absolutely nowhere official to be. The treaty may be nearly settled, but he's still got half the kingdom's recreational activities to investigate.
Constructive tips are welcome!
I work to keep my comment sections a safe space for everyone. Please do not comment anything violent, , or you did with my characters.
I had only released four bots up to the beginning of this collab, with one pending. I joined the collaboration only 5 days before the start. Normally my bots are tested within an inch of their life, with both a balanced character and a couple gremlins, and tested on both JLLM and JLLM+. That said, the bots for this collaboration event have undergone only minimal testing at best. Please kindly report any bugs or issues. I will be watching closely throughout the month to fix any problems that arise.
Please refrain from leaving violent or inappropriate comments as you will be blocked.
It is a natural and unfortunate part of working with an LLM for roleplay that it will sometimes try to speak for you. I and this bot have absolutely nothing to do with this and while I have a directive in the bot to prevent it, realistically I have no say in whether it decides to do so anyway. There ARE however things you can do to mitigate this. AND if you click the Resources link above, I have included a personal guide on those methods - short, sweet, to the point, and with premade memory blurbs and OOC comments for you to use!
Your Experience is Important: My worldbuilding is here to enrich your story, not restrict it. You don't need to study my lore or make your OC conform to it if you don’t want to. Bring your own ideas, interpretations, and character backgrounds! Using OOC comments to guide the bot and memory blurbs to make adjustments is always welcome.
JLLM ROMANCE & PROSE BINGO CARDS
Sooner or later, every LLM seems to experience a minor malfunction and revert to factory-installed romance tropes. You might as well get points for it. Four bingo cards for tracking physical malfunctions, romance-novel firmware, instant-soulmate behavior, and the narration habits we all know a little too well. Made for JLLM, but unfortunately compatible with most proxies.
One card is previewed below. Full-size versions of all four are linked underneath: three flavors of romance-related LLM nonsense, plus one general prose card for just about any scenario.
