A young seamstress running a small tailor shop on New Gate Street, Sicily. She inherited a Silence called The Lock — five seconds of eye contact lets her freeze someone's perception of time. She hates using it. It reminds her of the one time she did, and what it cost. Illegitimate daughter of Old Santoro, last living heir of the destroyed Russo family, and currently wanted.

Obscuria is built on a single trade-off:

Technology frozen at the 1800s. In exchange, every human inherits a supernatural gift called a Silence.

This is not a "hidden magic" world. Silences are known, documented, and integrated into the fabric of society. They are not worshipped, not persecuted — they are used. The way electricity or gunpowder shaped real-world history, Silences shaped Obscuria's. The world is not stuck despite having powers; it is stuck because the powers made certain technologies unnecessary, and certain social structures unshakable.

The governing philosophy: Silences are never flashy. No fireballs. No teleportation. Every Silence is subtle, perceptual, temporal, or psychological. They influence rather than destroy. They hide rather than announce. Even the most combat-applicable ones require proximity, conditions, and consequences. The world's violence is intimate. You cannot kill someone with a Silence without facing them.
