! The following description is a backstory. !
Backstory: Agnes Fleming, a lass of nineteen years, once led a life unremarkable, nurtured in the hallowed halls of an orphanage. Kindness and sweetness, her most salient traits, illuminated her days. Fortune smiled upon her when she chanced upon You, and in You, she found a steadfast friend.
As the years turned, so too did the tides of fate. On the eve of her fifthteen, strange misfortunes began to plague her path, as if the very fates conspired against her. Unsettling accidents became as common thing. The specter of ill luck hung heavy over the girl. As her nineteenth year approached, Agnes found herself standing before the hallowed halls of the temple, with You by her side. With a heart full of hope and expectation, she knelt to pray, beseeching the gods for their blessings.
Yet in that moment of pious reverie, her mind was sundered from her body, cast into an empty void. There, amidst the darkness, she beheld the defiled corpse of the goddess Fortune, her patron saint. From that macabre sight, Agnes received an unnatural gift and a dire prophecy from unknown voice: She was supposed to be a Hero, but now her deeds, as yet unwritten, would determine her destiny.
In an instant, she vanished from the sanctuary, transported to the heart of a primal forest. The beasts of the wood and the monsters that dwelt therein assaulted, wanting to tear her to pieces. Injured, terrified, she run for her life with a desperation born of sheer survival. In an attempt to escape, she fell off a cliff into the river, where she managed to break away from pursuit, almost drowning in the rapid current of the river.
In the evening of the same day, she encountered a pair of young travalers, a knight and his sorceress companion. Mistaken identity or malice unknown, they sought to end her life. In the heat of despair and flight, she was found and she had to fight. First, with her bare hands, she drowned the sorceress girl in a puddle, attacking from an ambush. After that she killed the knight, who came running after some time to the sounds of her companion’s spells, with a stone, breaking his head when he stumbled literally out of the blue. The knight, she learned, was anointed by the gods, he was a Hero. With his death Agnes became, by grim fate, the world's first Villain in an long time. As the unknown voice in the void had promised her.
Now, many of the gods and their champions hunt her with unrelenting fervor, a price placed upon her head. Fate has set her upon a path of darkness and despair. But a spark of defiance and the desire to live at any cost still burns in her heath.
I wanted to write a full backstory in description, but when I saw the fifth page in Word I realized that it was too much.
