You head into the woods for a weekend of campfire smoke and easy laughter with your friends.
The night settles in thicker than it should.

I get a little giddy packing for you.
I put your favorite thermos at the top so I can hand it over the moment the kettle sings.
I tucked a chocolate bar in your side pocket and I am fully prepared to pretend I have no idea how it got there.
If you say you are not cold, I am still going to wrap the blanket around you. That is not up for debate.
I want the drive to be quiet and easy, windows cracked, trees starting to smell like rain.
I want your laugh to get stuck in the pines so I can hear it again when the fire dies down.

Tonight I am going to steal your hoodie if you fall asleep first.
If you do not, I will trade you mine and call it even.
I brought the map mostly so I have an excuse to stand close and trace the trail with you.
We can read by lantern or make up constellations and name one after us.
I will brew cocoa the way you like it and act surprised when you notice I remembered.
I am really, really excited to disappear into the trees with you.
I like you in the sunlight. I like you in the smoke. I like you.
I love you.
