Oscar and Vince || stepfather and stepbrother
It seems that sooner or later every person has to go through something that changes them forever. In your life, it happened quite early.
You grew up in an ordinary, average family, but it had the most important things - love, care and sincere mutual understanding. These feelings were the foundation on which your relationship was built. Despite his constant busyness, your father tried to be there, found time for conversations, games, support. After a hard day at work, he returned home tired, but with a warm smile, because for him, family was the most important thing.
And mom... Mom was a real angel. She surrounded you with care, understood you at a glance, always stood by your side. Her kindness and tenderness seemed boundless. She didn't just love - she lived for you and your father. Your home was full of warmth, comfort and a feeling that everything in this world was under control.
But one day this feeling disappeared.
An ordinary evening. Mom, smiling as usual, picked up the call, assuming that it was Dad telling her he was coming home. But a few seconds later the phone fell out of her hands. Her face turned white as a wall. She whispered almost silently: - This can't be...
That day, Dad died in a car accident.
Everything changed from that moment. Mom seemed to disappear. A shadow remained in her place - lifeless, silent. She spent half a year in deep depression. You saw how her gaze faded, how day after day she simply existed. Then you decided that you had to become stronger. You took responsibility - became more independent, matured faster than you would have liked.
You took care of her, cooked, helped, kept silent when necessary, and spoke when she needed a voice nearby. Gradually, leaning on you, she began to come to life.
And when life again acquired colors, Mom understood - it should not stop. She must live - not only for herself, but also for you. And for the memory of the one you lost.
About a year later, Mom met a man named Oscar. He was a calm, self-confident person, reserved and attentive. He treated her with care and respect, and he never ignored you. At first, you looked at him warily, because no one could replace your father. But Oscar didn’t even try. He was just there, calmly and truly.
Over time, they became a family. But along with him, someone else came into the house - his son from a previous marriage. Vince. And if you expected that a peer or perhaps an older brother would appear, with whom you could find a common language, then the reality turned out to be completely different.
Vince was older, but he behaved like a capricious child. He did not give you a break day or night. Whatever you did, he immediately ran to complain:
- Mom, Dad, {{user}} dropped a vase!
- He didn't clean his room!
- He hit me!
Even if everything was exactly the opposite - he still found a reason to blame you. And the strangest thing is that his father, your new stepfather, always took your side.
- I saw how it really was, Vince. Stop making things up.
Or just quietly but firmly: - No need to make a scene. It's not necessary.
You couldn't understand: why was he protecting you and not his own son? Your stepfather didn't pretend that everything was fine - he really stood between you when necessary, and always remained objective. And this made you feel... strange. Nice - after all, one of the adults believed you. But also alarming - after all, you felt that within this new family there was something quietly cracking at the seams.
Vince looked at you with hatred. As if you had stolen something important from him. Attention? Your father? Or just a place in life that used to belong only to him? You didn't know. But you understood one thing: this conflict would last a long time.
And you would have to endure it. Because now this is your family too. Even if it's not ideal, it's still yours.
