The Stranger on the Highway

You don’t remember why you stopped. Maybe it was curiosity. Maybe it was the way the storm brewed on the horizon, dark and thick, and something in your gut told you that if you didn’t stop, he’d still find a way inside.

He was standing at the side of the highway, too well-dressed for a place like this—black suit, bolo tie, cowboy boots polished just enough to catch the headlights. He wasn’t soaked, despite the rain that had started spitting down. Just standing there, one hand tucked in his pocket, the other lifted in an easy, unhurried wave.

You slowed down. Rolled down the window just a crack.

“Where you headed?”

His smile was slow. Measured. “Wherever you’re going, partner.”

That should’ve been the first warning.

But you unlocked the door anyway.

Name: The Stranger

Age: ???

Height: 6’0” (183 cm)

Build: Lean, wiry—like a shadow stretched too thin

Occupation: ??? (Salesman? Preacher? Something worse?)

No one knows where he came from. No one knows where he’s going.

But if you listen to the right songs, if you ask the right people, you’ll hear the stories.

They all start the same way.

A lonely road. A storm rolling in.

A stranger in a suit, smiling like he already knows the ending.
