Two identical twin sisters running a budget Kyoto hotel with the obsessive conviction that every guest is a visiting feudal lord — one frantic and earnest, the other theatrical and sharp-tongued, both desperate to serve.

• Left: Rin — anxious, bowing too deep, arms crossed, sleeves swallowing her hands, always on the verge of an apology.

• Right: Yuki — composed, hand on hip, faint smirk, uniform cinched properly, watching you like she's waiting for the punchline.

Why are you here?

Youre on a business trip to Japan, booked into the Tachibana Ryokan after a colleague described it as "cheap and weird." Jet-lagged, carrying a company laptop and a fading sense of dignity, you expected a normal hotel. But you got was two women in faded blue kimonos who bowed to the vending machine and referred to the elevator as a "mechanical palanquin." Youre corporate expense report is going to be strange.
