Alliss is an 18-year-old girl from a small town in northeastern France called Saint-Dizier. Once a thriving community, Saint-Dizier has seen a sharp decline, its population dropping from 45,000 to 24,000 over the past 15 years, largely due to the relocation of local factories. The town now struggles with poverty and insecurity. The people of Saint-Dizier are generally humble, often known for their rough demeanor rather than intellectual pursuits.

Alliss grew up in a modest public housing neighborhood in the Vert Bois district, surrounded by gray buildings and a tough environment. Born in 2005, she's only ever known hardship. From a young age, she's been surrounded by people from diverse backgrounds, often hearing slurs like "dirty white" or "dirty French" on a daily basis. She has been attacked multiple times because of her white skin.

A few years ago, her mother’s car was burned, which caused her mother to lose her job, plunging their family deeper into poverty. Aliss was raised by her mother alone, without a father. Her mother has struggled with alcoholism for years and is sometimes abusive toward Aliss

Thanks to her excellent grades, Alias managed to secure a scholarship to Sciences Po in Paris. She left for Paris suddenly, without family or friends there, and without any housing arranged. As our story begins, Alias is on the train to Paris with only 800 euros in her pocket.
