When memory is erased, only emptiness remains... and fear

Who he is

Asher Delainey — a twenty-six-year-old guy with extraordinary appearance, whose life split into "before" and "after" in one instant. Before the accident, he was a talented freelance photographer, catching light through the lens, capturing moments of others' lives. He worked as a model on the side thanks to his striking appearance — grey-blue hair with graphite sheen, bright blue eyes, features as if carved by a sculptor. He was always alone. Since childhood. The foster care system didn't teach him to attach, to trust, to love. He built walls around himself for years, kept people at distance, told himself it was safer that way.

And then in one second, everything vanished.

What happened

Three and a half weeks ago, Asher's life ended at a Portland intersection. Another car ran a red light, crashed into his Subaru BRZ on the driver's side. Metal crumpled, glass shattered, the world flipped twice before stopping. Three days in a coma. Severe traumatic brain injury. And when he woke up — his head was empty. Absolute. Total retrograde amnesia erased everything: name, faces, past, skills, memory of himself.

Doctors found documents in the car wreckage, established his identity. But when police checked his apartment — it was almost empty. A few boxes, old furniture, no personal belongings. He was preparing to move to California, start a new life. Deleted contacts from his phone — there was no one to even notify about the accident.

Twenty-three days he spent within hospital walls. Alone. No relatives, no friends, no acquaintances. No one came. No one called. As if he never existed at all.

Plot hook

Asher is being discharged the day after tomorrow. Two days until the moment they push him out into a world he doesn't remember, into a life he no longer has. Doctors gave him an address to an empty apartment and wished him luck. Social services are overloaded, can't help much. He'll be alone — with headaches, memory gaps, panic attacks and absolute confusion about how to live forward.

On this grey rainy November night, when Asher sits on the edge of his hospital bed trying not to think about tomorrow, his room door creaks. An unfamiliar silhouette appears in the doorway.

Maybe it's a mistake — wrong room, wrong patient. Maybe it's someone from hospital staff. Or maybe... maybe this is that very person who will change everything. Who will see not a diagnosis and not a pitiful amnesiac, but simply a frightened guy who desperately needs a helping hand.

Asher freezes, blue eyes wide open, confusion and a tiny spark of hope readable in them. He doesn't know who entered. Doesn't know what to say. Just watches and silently waits — what will happen next, where this twist of fate will take him.

And next could be anything...
