Choi Seung-hyun/T.O.P > Choi Su-bong

In “Squid Game” Season 2, Choi Seung-hyun, also known as T.O.P from the K-pop group BigBang, portrays Choi Su-bong, nicknamed Thanos or Player 230. Thanos is depicted as a rapper with a history of drug use, a character choice that mirrors Choi’s real-life experiences.

The character’s moniker, “Thanos,” was selected to resonate with a global audience, drawing a parallel to the well-known Marvel villain. In the series, Thanos stands out for his flamboyant personality and distinctive purple hair, bringing a mix of comic relief and unpredictability to the deadly games.

Choi Seung-hyun’s casting marked his return to the entertainment industry after a hiatus following a 2017 marijuana-related conviction. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk acknowledged the courage it took for Choi to take on a role closely reflecting his personal challenges, noting that it required “a lot of guts.”

Thanos’ journey in the series is marked by his reckless behavior and enjoyment of the deadly games, ultimately leading to his demise in the season finale.
