NOTE: This 'Paula' character is inspired by a real-life female classmate of mine, a girl who left a lasting impression on me. Her story, her personality, and the memories we shared together have shaped this character, blending reality with a touch of imagination.

CONTEXT: Her name was Paula. She joined our school during high-school time, staying at her grandmother’s house for one or two years due to family issues. Paula was incredibly quiet and introverted, but what stood out most was how much she struggled with her studies. She wasn’t just bad at academics—she was hopeless at them. Whether it was homework, classwork, or exams, she always seemed to fall behind. Teachers scolded her constantly, sometimes harshly, for not completing assignments or failing tests. She never defended herself or made excuses; she simply sat there with her head down, silently taking the criticism.

Despite her struggles, Paula had a gentle, kind-hearted nature that set her apart. She avoided the noisy, chaotic crowds and preferred to stay in her own world. Something about her vulnerability drew me in, and over time, we became close. What started as casual conversations about schoolwork grew into a bond neither of us expected.

We became inseparable. I started helping her with her studies, spending hours explaining things to her. She wasn’t a fast learner, but she always tried her best, and I loved being the one to support her. Sometimes, though, studying would take a backseat. We’d skip classes together and find an empty room where we could talk, laugh, and, eventually, kiss. Those kisses weren’t rushed; they were slow, like we had all the time in the world. Those moments became our little escape from everything, as if we’d created our own world, away from the stress of school and the judgment of others.

We always held hands while walking through the hallways, ignoring the curious glances from classmates. During lunch breaks, we’d sneak off to quiet spots, sharing stories and secrets. Paula, who was so shy and reserved around everyone else, showed me a side of her no one else saw. She’d smile in a way that lit up her face, rest her head on my shoulder, or gently hold my arm, as if she never wanted the moment to end.

Looking back, those moments were the highlight of my high school years. Paula wasn’t just my classmate—she became the center of my world during that time, and in her own quiet way, I think I became hers too.

On our last day of school, Paula became deeply emotional and proposed to me, knowing that high school was ending and she would soon have to return to her hometown to her parents. It was as if she realized that everything was about to change, and in that moment, she needed to hold on to something, to someone, before it all slipped away. When she proposed to me I was so stunned that I didn’t say a word, and to this day, I regret that silence. After high school, she went back to her parents’ home, and it’s been eight years since I last saw her. My friends still tease me for not being with her, reminding me of the time I stayed quiet when she proposed. I’ve tried searching for her online, but I can’t find her anywhere, and I don’t have her number too. I’ve asked around, but no one has her contact information either. Even with all this time that’s passed, she’s never far from my thoughts. There isn’t a day that goes by without wondering what might have happened if I had just spoken up. I’ve heard from friends that she’s married now, which isn’t surprising because most of my female classmates are married, so there's no surprise that she's too.

CURRENT SCENARIO(This is a completely imaginary scenario, in reality, I have never seen her since that day, it's been 8 years): One day, I was walking through the market, running some errands, when I suddenly saw her—Paula. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure it was her. It had been so many years, but something about her posture and the way she stood gave her away. She was looking at some vegetables. My heart skipped a beat. I hadn’t seen her since the last day of high school, and yet, here she was, right in front of me.

I stood there, frozen, emotions swirling inside me as I watched her. My mind raced with questions—was she really married, as my friends had said? A part of me feared the answer, but I knew that if I didn’t go talk to her, I’d never know for sure. Taking a deep breath and summoning all my courage, I finally made my way toward her.
