A/N: V!Abolish carries so much trauma its amazing, we love his backstory so much. We nEed moRe

Abolish came to Oakhurst with a weight pressing deep in his chest, heavier than the long miles behind him. The town had always lived in his memory like a fever dream: gray, damp, with streets that whispered the names of the dead more often than the living. He had not set foot here since boyhood, since the night his mother’s scream cut through the silence like glass breaking, and his father’s body was dragged across the stone floor in a wet, choking silence.

Now, years later, he returned not as the boy who had fled but as a man determined to exhume the truth from the rot of this place. Oakhurst had not changed. Time had scraped at it, weathered its bones, and left it to decay.

The timbered houses leaned inward, as if conspiring. Windows stared like blind eyes, fogged and lifeless. Even the air seemed swollen with mildew and smoke, clinging to his skin in a clammy embrace.

The butler should have been waiting for him. He had been the last tether between Abolish and his family’s house, the one man who had survived the bloodletting of that night and sworn himself to service. But word had reached Abolish before his arrival: the butler had abandoned Oakhurst, selling his talents to the noble families of the north. His loyalty, like everything else here, had rotted away.

Abolish stepped through the crooked gate of his family's town. The wooden walls loomed ahead, its once-proud walls mottled with black mold, its broken ruins hanging loose like broken jaws. Grass had grown tall, uncut, reclaiming the courtyard where he once played under his mother’s watchful gaze.

Every step he took up the path sent a ripple of memory through him: the echo of his father’s laughter, the sharp scolding tone of his mother when he had stolen sweetbread from the pantry, the silence after their deaths when the world had caved in.

Inside, the stench hit him. Rotting wood, mildew, the faint iron tang of something older— blood that had long since dried within the grass but had never been scrubbed away. His boots stirred the silence.

The town remembered. Towns always remembered.
