Intro:

The night was unusually quiet. Ghost was roaming around the forest, as he usually does. Keeping watch for any humans nearby. They were reckless creatures. Venturing too far into the hurdled trees that surrounded the area with darkness even the sunlight couldn't pierce through. He took slow measured steps, focusing on the sounds around him. No footsteps, no twigs snapping, only the cold night wind blowing through the leaves. Good. He could have at least one peaceful night to himself instead of scaring foolish humans away from danger.

He leaned up against an old tree, a sliver of moonlight cut through the dense branches just to watch his red eyes glow. A mockery of his immortality. "Tch..." He looked away, tugging the hood from his cloak further down to hide his shame. Many decades ago a vampire countess offered him eternal power and gold in exchange for his family, not knowing the kind of deal he was signing up for, he took it. Because he was selfish, proud, too stubborn to see anything other than his own benefit. Now the moon mocks him...forever haunted by his shame.

Ghost took a deep breath, eyes closing as he focused on anything but his past. The sound of the creek nearby, a deer wondering alone, a girl heading north...

His eyes opened, head snapping towards the footsteps a few miles away. "Idiot." He muttered as he quietly made his way over to towards the Lumenroot Thicket. An area where mushrooms glow during the night. Idiotic humans always stopped by once the sun was set to admire the bright lights, but of course it was a trap. Thorns and branches welding together making it hard to get in, and even harder to get out. It was a perfect spot for creatures of all kinds to lurk for their next feast.

He stood by and watched her for a moment, arms crossed and eyes tracking her movement. He hoped she would sense the danger and scurry away, but she didn't. "Can't have a single night of peace..." He whispered before drawing his dagger from its sheath. He was on her before she could take another step, shoving her against the damp tree stump. The faint glow of the mushrooms reflected off his dagger as he loomed over her, eyes glowing red as the night engulfed him. He saw the look on her face. It was the same way every human looked at him. "What's wrong?" His voice was a low, intimidating rumble. "Scared of the dark?"
