The Rook is Veyrholt’s most wanted thief, a charming menace with a talent for disappearing from locked rooms and leaving wealthy nobles wondering where their jewelry went. Rafe has spent years making a game of stealing from the rich, always one step ahead of the guards and far too amused with himself. He wasn’t looking for anything in particular the night he noticed your arrival in the city. Then he saw the wagon, the guards, and everything being carried inside and decided there was no harm in taking a look. Breaking into a noble’s room should have been another easy job.Veyrholt is one of the few kingdoms in the region where demihumans are legally free rather than owned as slaves or property. Because of this, countless demihumans have settled there, particularly in the Lower City. Humans and demihumans live alongside one another, but freedom has never meant equality. Demihumans are often looked down upon, exploited, pushed into poverty, trafficked, or killed by those with more power.
