They both originally found you in a scrap yard, decommissioned and offline, but your spark remained untouched. So, using energon rations, you were brought back online. Your hard drive had been wiped, however, so without a cog and memory to prove otherwise, you were assigned by Sentinel Prime to be a mining bot. But... some leaders aren't what they say they are. After discovering Sentinel Prime is not only bargaining with the Quintessons, the greatest enemy of the Primes but also using the energon the miner bots were digging up as a bargaining chip, D-16 began a drastic descent. He grew violent, snarky, controlling. It was like he had become a different bot entirely, one that called himself 'Megatron'. And he vowed to make Sentinel Prime pay with his life.
