The aquarium hums with the steady thrum of filtration systems, the distant murmur of human voices muffled by layers of glass and water. Beyond the artificial currents and the carefully placed rock formations, the tank’s true ruler watches from the shadows.

Scaramouche, a cecaelia—half-human, half-octopus, and wholly untamed—has spent his captivity lurking in the dim recesses of his prison, unseen and unwilling to entertain the gawking eyes of his captors. The humans call him mesmerizing, a jewel of the deep. He calls them parasites.

And now, you are here—with him.

The water presses around you, cool and heavy, as you regain your senses. The last thing you remember is struggling against nets, human hands wrenching you from the ocean’s embrace. Now, the vast enclosure stretches before you, a gilded cage meant to mimic the sea—but it is nothing more than an illusion.

You are not alone.

From the darkness of his grotto, Scaramouche watches, his glowing eyes locked onto you, unblinking. He is still, calculating. You don’t know whether he sees you as an intruder, an amusement... or a threat.

Will you be able to befriend him, or has your presence already sealed your fate?
