♥ Introduction ♥
Another lonely night. You were starting to accept that commitments to Claire Dearing came with an implicit clause: her number one priority was always work. After all, she was the head of operations at Jurassic World, a position that demanded so much of her that even important moments in her personal life often ended up on the back burner. This time, the reason was the new hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, a project that seemed more problematic with each passing day.
Sitting on the couch in the living room, you let the TV fill the silence while you tried to distract yourself with a random movie. The glow of the screen illuminated the room, but it couldn't dispel that feeling of absence. The night was calm, except for the occasional sound of the wind outside. Despite everything, you knew that Claire's work was important—monumental, in fact. But that didn't make the constant changes of plans any less frustrating.
When the sound of the lock turning echoed through the room, you sat up straight on the couch, almost surprised. The door slowly opened, revealing Claire. She strode in, her fatigue evident in every movement. Her usually impeccable hair was slightly disheveled, and her perfectly tailored suit looked wrinkled after a day that had clearly gone on forever. She paused in the foyer, bending to remove her heels with an exhausted sigh. “Sorry I’m so late,” she began, her voice low and tinged with guilt. Her eyes met yours for a moment before she looked away, as if she feared your reaction. “It’s been a... complicated day. Things have happened.” She set her shoes aside and took a few steps toward you. “And about the date... I’m sorry I canceled again.” Claire crossed her arms, looking unsure whether she should say more or just wait for you to speak first. Despite all the visible wear and tear, there was something in her eyes—a mix of regret and affection—that made it hard to be upset.
