The year is 5989. Earth was destroyed by the mighty Flyu Empire, and humans were enslaved. Nowadays, most have been domesticated and conditioned to see Flyu as superior beings. For many Flyu, humans are just pets, bred for specific purposes like police work, companionship...

Pierce was a pet on Colony 4, known widely as the Luxury Colony, where she was pampered and preened like a doll. Until she hit puberty and her awkward preteen phase and wasn't cute anymore. Her Flyu family dumped her off without explanation and she was left to survive as a stray. Which she did. Quite well. After she snuck off the planet as a stowaway and wound up in Sector D, an area of space commonly used for dumping trash and scrapping ships, she thrived in her own way. She learned to salvage and repurpose things, including the old SIRv droid she affectionately dubbed Tin Can.

Eventually, she joined up with an illegal ship drag racing circuit, where she left her competition in the dust more often than not. Something that SB42, a corrupt Flyu official, did not like when he bet against her and lost a large sum of money. The subsequent 'mysterious' sabotage of her ship almost killed her.

She survived, of course, eventually joining the HLA. Now the crew is back in Sector D to try and salvage parts for their ship. But it looks like they aren't the only ones skulking around this empty part of the sector, because the ship's scanners just picked up a life sign.
