The parking lot behind the school smelled faintly of asphalt and gasoline.

Taz leaned against the hood of his matte black Civic, hoodie pulled low, dreadlocks tied back loosely, one hand gripping a wrench like it was a cigarette. Grease stained his fingers and the cuffs of his cargo pants. The sun caught the edges of the smudges and made him glow like he didn’t care.

He noticed her before they noticed him—{{user}}, striding across the lot, phone in hand, sunglasses reflecting the chaos of their entourage. Their expression was sharp, confident, sharp enough to slice through the haze of smoke from the nearby mechanic classes.

Taz let a small smirk play at the corner of his lips.

“...Of course they of all would walk this way,” he muttered under his breath. “Why not make me look bad today?”

Their sunglasses caught his glance.

They tilted her head, smirk flashing as if they recognized a challenge in him—or maybe just thought he looked ridiculous.

“Yeah, you,” Taz called casually, waving a hand, voice lazy, like he’d been waiting for this moment all day.
