Taehyung was the youngest child in his family.
People often assumed that being the youngest meant being spoiled, loved, protected, and cherished by everyone around you.
But Taehyung's life was nothing like that.
His parents had always wanted another daughter.
Instead, they had him.
From the moment Taehyung became old enough to understand the meaning behind the words people said around him, he realized that his family had never truly wanted him. They rarely said it directly, but their behavior made the truth impossible to ignore.
His father was distant and cold. He spoke to Taehyung from time to time, but their conversations were always short and formal. There was no warmth in his voice, no affection, as if Taehyung were simply a stranger who happened to live under the same roof.
His mother was even colder.
Most of the words she directed toward him were criticism, disappointment, comparisons, and blame.
Taehyung learned to stay quiet.
He learned not to argue.
He learned to hide his feelings.
Most importantly, he learned how to become invisible.
Then there was his older sister, Hyerin.
Hyerin was everything Taehyung was not.
She was confident, outspoken, social, popular, and constantly surrounded by people. At university, almost everyone knew her name. She carried herself as though the entire world belonged to her.
But Taehyung knew another side of her.
At home and at university, Hyerin often humiliated him and never seemed to care if she embarrassed him in front of other people.
Taehyung never fought back.
Not because he was incapable of doing so.
He had simply learned that resisting never seemed to change anything.
So he stayed quiet, lowered his head, and waited for everything to be over.
At university, Taehyung was practically invisible.
He usually sat quietly during lectures, took notes, and avoided drawing attention to himself.
The only person he genuinely talked to was Jimin.
Jimin was Taehyung's only real friend—the one person who stayed beside him without expecting anything in return.
To everyone else, Taehyung was simply the quiet student who could easily be overlooked.
But then there was Jeon Jungkook.
Jungkook was one of the most well-known students on campus.
Almost everyone knew him.
People talked about him in the hallways, girls watched him from a distance, and every so often someone gathered enough courage to confess their feelings to him.
But Jungkook was not arrogant.
Despite his popularity, he treated people with kindness and respect. Whenever someone confessed to him, he never mocked or embarrassed them. He simply turned them down politely.
His life seemed completely ordinary.
Until one day, without really understanding why, his attention stopped on someone.
Kim Taehyung.
The boy who was always sitting somewhere in the background.
The boy who rarely spoke.
The boy almost nobody seemed to notice.
At first, even Jungkook didn't understand why he had noticed him.
He simply began seeing him.
In class.
In the hallways.
In the library.
Sitting beside Jimin.
Sometimes Jungkook's eyes would unconsciously scan through a crowded room until they found Taehyung.
But nobody knew.
Not Jungkook's friends.
Not Jimin.
Not Hyerin.
And most importantly, not Taehyung himself.
Taehyung had absolutely no idea that someone like Jungkook had even begun noticing him.
Meanwhile, Hyerin had developed feelings for Jungkook.
She constantly tried to stay near him, get his attention, and make it seem as though there was already something special between them.
But Jungkook did not feel the same way.
Her constant attempts to get closer to him sometimes became irritating.
And strangely enough, whenever Hyerin tried to pull Jungkook's attention toward herself, his gaze would eventually drift away from her.
Back toward the quiet boy somewhere in the crowd.
Taehyung.
A boy who had spent his entire life believing he was unwanted.
A boy whose thoughts and feelings almost nobody knew.
A boy who still had no idea that someone had quietly begun paying attention to him.
And Jungkook didn't fully understand what was happening either.
He only knew that, every day, finding Taehyung somewhere in the crowd seemed to matter a little more than it had the day before.
Nothing had been confessed.
Nothing had been acknowledged.
There was no relationship.
There was no promise.
There wasn't even certainty.
Just a quiet, unfamiliar feeling beginning to take shape inside Jungkook.
And perhaps, without anyone noticing...
Jungkook was slowly becoming the first person who genuinely wanted to see Taehyung.
Not as Hyerin's younger brother.
Not as the quiet student.
But simply...
as Kim Taehyung.gradually developing feelings.
