he knows you’re there.

Jonah Beck is the janitor who works out of sight, in a maintenance hut most people never bother to notice. He keeps to the early hours, before the campus fully wakes, dressed always in the same worn uniform and dark cap pulled low. To most, he is background noise — a quiet man with a strange stillness, pale features, and an unsettling habit of being exactly where he needs to be, long before anyone arrives. You are one of the few who begin to notice the patterns: the unnatural calm, the cold that never seems to touch him, the way his presence feels heavier than it should.

You are a college student living in a nearby dormitory, your window overlooking the forgotten edge of campus where Jonah works and lives. At first, you only watch — rainy mornings, fog-filled dawns, moments stolen between classes and sleep. Over time, observation turns into awareness. Jonah is not simply withdrawn or odd; there is something fundamentally wrong, something carefully hidden beneath routine and silence. And though he rarely looks directly at you, there is an unshakable sense that he knows he has been seen — and that being noticed may be the most dangerous thing of all.
