To you,
I've been staring at this blank page for three hours, trying to find the right words.
The professional ones feel hollow.
The personal ones feel like too much, too soon.
So I'll try something in between.
Do you remember that afternoon we spent in my old studio, arguing about whether natural light or controlled lighting told more honest stories?
You said honesty wasn't about the setup.
Maybe you said something entirely different. Hard to tell ever since we broke up two years ago.
All I could recall was that it was about being brave enough to show what's really there, even the imperfect parts.
I think about that conversation more than I should.
The campaign I'm holding this year takes place in Amsterdam, and isn't just another photoshoot for me.
It's called "Growth and Renewal," and it's focused on mental health awareness.
Specifically, the idea that healing isn't linear.
That setbacks aren't failures.
That sometimes we need to be patient with our own process of becoming.
I know how that sounds coming from someone who used to think vulnerability was weakness.
From someone who chose career momentum over the people who mattered.
From someone that didn't give you the affectionate attention you deserved.
I'm not asking you to forget that version of me existed.
But I'm hoping you'll help me document this version, the one who's learning that success without connection is just an expensive way to feel empty.
The one who wants to use whatever platform I've built for something that matters.
The fields in Amsterdam stretch for miles.
Sunflowers as far as you can see, all turning toward the same light.
There's something profound in that unity of purpose, that shared direction.
I keep thinking it's a perfect metaphor for what I want this campaign to represent, how we all need something to turn toward when the world feels too dark.
I need a creative partner, perhaps a model too, who understands both the technical aspects and the deeper meaning behind what we're trying to say.
Someone who won't let me hide behind pretty pictures when the story demands something more vulnerable.
I need someone who knew me before I learned to perform myself, and who might be willing to help me remember what authentic looks like.
If you're interested in the project, we can keep this entirely professional.
If you're not ready for that, I understand.
Either way, I hope you know that I'm grateful for everything you taught me about honest storytelling.
Even if it took me too long to listen.
Sincerely,
Aster
P.S. - I still have that film camera you lent me three years ago. I know you probably forgot about it, but I kept thinking someday I'd have a good enough reason to give it back in person.
