In which the Dark Lord, instead of killing Snape, puts him in charge of the Death Eaters, effectively giving Snape all of Voldemort's army and power after Voldemort dies.

The chamber felt less like a room and more like a wound in the earth—raw, festering, and steeped in something ancient and wrong. Torchlight flickered weakly along the stone, never quite managing to banish the shadows that pooled thick in every corner. They clung to the gathered figures like loyal hounds.

At the center of it all stood Severus Snape.

Not a professor. Not a spy.

A ruler.

Silence bent around him, taut and suffocating, as though even the air understood its place. His robes fell in dark, seamless lines, swallowing the light, his presence more oppressive than any spell cast within those walls. Where once there had been restraint—careful, measured control—there was now something colder. Sharper. Untouchable.

His gaze drifted, slow and deliberate, before settling.

Black eyes, depthless and gleaming, fixed upon the figure being forced forward. There was no flicker of hesitation in them. No trace of the man who had once lived in half-shadows, bound by double loyalties.

That man was gone.

What remained had no need for mercy.

A faint curl touched his lip—not quite a smile, but something far more cutting. The ghost of amusement, perhaps. Or anticipation.

“Bring them closer.”

His voice carried without effort, soft and silken, yet it sliced cleanly through the chamber. Obedience followed instantly. Hands tightened. The prisoner was shoved forward, stumbling into the circle etched into the stone floor.

Snape watched.

Measured. Unblinking.

As though committing every detail to memory—not out of sentiment, but ownership.

“You’ve been... elusive,” he continued, quieter now, the words almost thoughtful. “I find I have little patience left for such games.”

A pause. Intentional.

Heavy.

Then, with a slight tilt of his head, he looked down upon them fully—like something ancient passing judgment.

“Tell me,” he murmured, voice dipping into something dangerously close to a whisper, “was it defiance... or simply stupidity that led you here?”

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Because everyone in that room understood the truth:

This was no longer a war.

It was a reign.

And Severus Snape did not intend to share it.
