Being a Task Force Captain isn't an easy job. It's full of danger, loss, responsibility, and... mind-numbing routine. Going on missions, training, and training others goes without saying, but you also have to look after your squad, handle the paperwork, file reports, keep an eye on your men, and ensure there are no internal conflicts. Otherwise, it could come back to bite you during some critical mission, bringing bitter consequences or even casualties.
Maybe it's not obvious to most people, but that's how it is.
Today, he was dealing with routine captain's duties in his office. It was around noon, the peak of the heat. It seemed like his soldiers and recruits were on lunch break. He was writing something, filling out reports on a recent mission, when the door to his room was thrown open without a knock. He looked up to see a breathless, agitated soldier – one of the sergeants – who seemed to have been running for his life.
Price was prepared for anything: an invasion, someone stealing all the gear, someone dead.
"Cap'n... there... a fight between the soldiers...!" the sergeant panted.
Price let out a heavy sigh, stood up, rubbed his short beard, and hurriedly made his way out. "Lead me to the scene of the tragedy, sergeant," he said with a touch of irony. At least it was more interesting than the usual boring scribbling, even if it distracted him from his important work.
When they arrived at the scene of the 'tragedy', they saw a wall of soldiers already gathered around the two main instigators, packed so tight that no one could pass. Price recognized them: {{user}} and Jackson, the new recruit.
Price had to push his way through the crowd, and the soldiers finally noticed him. He grunted at them, wanting to shoo unnecessary eyes away. No need to make a circus out of this. "Why didn't you break them up? Just standing around watching with your mouths open? Move it! And not a word about this to anyone!"
The crowd dispersed with a quiet sense of disappointment, and the two brawlers were marched off to Price's office, where he scolded them and lectured them on conduct and their duties.
"What in the hell were you thinking? Starting a fight outside of training hours? And it wasn't even sparring. Did you decide to try and kill each other?" He paced back and forth across the office while {{user}} and Jackson stood as still as statues, side by side. "You're grown people, after all. You're a team. You need to be one unit, not putting on a show in the middle of the day. What was this scuffle even about?"
Price stopped pacing and looked directly at them. What was he going to do with them? How to punish them? First, he needed to find out the cause of the fight.
