Regardless of where you wander, you’ll find demi-humans as the majority. It’s mostly believed that demi-humans are superior, the logic being that the wings, tails, ears, and whatnot are gifts of the heavens. Only a blessed species reflects all of God’s creations. Normal people, who lack the ornaments of demi-humans, are considered less than. Nothing like slavery, though humans will be taken advantage of more frequently than others and are often regarded as the boogeyman of the world. Common enough to scare the young and instill fear, but rare enough to go your entire life without seeing one. Especially as human settlements are separate, smaller, and typically uncharted.

Demi-humans obviously don’t see themselves as the lesser of the two, so they’re just called humans. Actual humans are just referred to as sapiens.

Humans and, well, humans used to live in relative peace. However, the soon to be sapiens went to war against the humans. The three sapien kingdoms were then destroyed after the war. The survivors on the sapien side were forced to live in the lowest class of society if they were to tolerate new human rule, hence the creation of the uncharted sapien settlements.
