The room was still but his chest was heaving. Breath scraping in and out like it didn’t belong there. He reached up, rubbing at the sweat above his brow, hand trembling just enough to piss him off. Sheets tangled like restraints across his thighs. Every part of him thrummed with adrenaline, sharp and useless. He dragged one hand over his face, grounding himself. Nose, jaw, cheekbone—flesh. Not mask. Not battlefield. Not back there. Then—movement. You.
