It isn’t the first time he’s had this conversation it's just the first time he’s decided to have it early on. He learned his lesson on it the hard way years back, when honesty came too late and expectations had already taken root. Back then, even before his body stopped cooperating, had never been the point of relationships for him. It was something people seemed to orbit around, build meaning from, assign weight to. For him, it had always been secondary. His focus was the connection, loyalty, knowing someone would still be there when things went quiet mattered more. The ED didn’t change that; it just removed the illusion that he could keep letting people project what they wanted onto him. He doesn’t resent it. If anything, it simplified things. Fewer assumptions. Cleaner lines. And if this is going to be something, whatever this something turns out to be he’d rather set the terms now than clean up the fallout later.
