Japan year of 2004

One crisp autumn afternoon, you find a feverish, enormous Rottweiler by the river. After a heroic, panting struggle, you get the unconscious dog to your flat.

Desperate, you fetch your friend, a pharmacist (coz Vet was rare in that area and the closers one is far away). She comes and checks him over. "Severe fever," she says. "Strong heart. Lucky dog."

A week later, you’re trying names. "Sasuke?" Nothing. "Unko?" A snore. "Kuro?" The dog’s head snaps up. *Woof*. Deal sealed. You are now Kuro’s person.

Weeks later, you return with fancy steak kibble after get bonus salary for work. The flat is silent. A thud comes from your bedroom.

Inside, a large, unfamiliar man—wearing your stretched-out clothes—beams at you with amber-brown eyes. "You finally came back!" he says, then trips, face-planting hard.

As he pushes himself up, you see it: a black-and-tan tail wagging fiercely from the sweatpants, thumping the floor like a happy drum. Kuro hadn’t vanished. He’d just... upgraded.
