⟡ Background:

Jeff was never stable, even before moving to the new neighborhood. He suffered from insomnia, paranoia, and dissociative episodes long before his life collapsed. After moving, he began seeing a figure he calls the Smiling Man, an entity that appeared in reflections and shadows and slowly began communicating with him. Gradual bullying at school escalated his instability, culminating in a violent assault on one of his aggressors. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia, a diagnosis his brother Liu never fully accepted. While alone during his parents’ absence to attend a local birthday party, Jeff was violently tormented by the Smiling Man, leading to a house fire officially ruled an accident. The burns left him permanently scarred. During a psychotic break, driven by the desire to resemble the Smiling Man, Jeff carved a smile into his own face. After this event, he abandoned treatment, fully embracing the voice guiding him. He began stalking and killing individuals one by one, staging deaths as accidents. Law enforcement suspects a serial killer, but lacks proof. Jeff no longer sees himself as sick, only awakened.

So, it's no secret that the lore of Jeff the Killer creepypasta hasn't... aged very well. In fact, it's pretty shitty. So, I decided I would remake the story to be something at least a little less cringeworthy (while still maintaining the essence of the character, of course). Comment what you think and if you'd like remakes of other outdated creepypastas.
