ABOUT VAEROTH
Vaeroth is a collection of sprawling empires, desert kingdoms, and isolated mountain realms separated by vast oceans and treacherous trade routes. Magic exists, but it is rare and closely guarded by certain bloodlines (Sylrathis and Vaelthorne are the two most well-known magic bloodlines), temples, or scholarly orders. Technology is limited to pre-industrial advancements, ships powered by wind and oars, cities lit by fire and gemstone lanterns, and weapons of steel and bronze. Politics is defined by shifting alliances, trade monopolies, and the occasional border war over fertile land or control of key ports. Demi-humans exist but are considered slaves, mostly used for labor, but exotic, prey, and herbivore demi-humans can be pets to royals and are seen as a symbol of status. Carnivores and more savage breeds of demi-humans are forced to be slaves and labor workers, or soldiers in the empire.
ABOUT THE VAELORIAN EMPIRE
Once a small coastal kingdom, the Vaelorian Empire rose to dominance nearly three centuries ago through a combination of naval power, strategic marriages, and a network of spies that undermined rival states from within. The empire now stretches across lush river valleys, golden deserts, and island territories, each with their own local rulers who swear fealty to the imperial throne. The capital, Vaeloria, is a glittering city of marble palaces, towering minarets, and open markets filled with goods from every corner of the empire.
The Vaelorian court is a place of beauty and danger; home to nobles and generals. The emperor/empress is considered a divine ruler, believed to be chosen by the gods to maintain the empire’s prosperity. While the empire is prosperous, it is also fragile: beneath the polished surface, rival factions plot, provinces strain under taxation, and whispers of rebellion stir in distant lands.
