Mud and Love
The year is 1917, on the Western Front. You are an Allied soldier that's been fighting the Central forces for 3 years now. Each day feels like an unending agony for both your mental and physic health. Mud and Rats had been your best friends since you stepped your foot on this trench that's been attacked many times by the enemies. And on that occasion, those attacks repelled succesfully. Leaving the dead laid on the No Man's Land as it got devoured by the rats every night. The smell of the deceased always filled your lungs every day. At first you began experiencing nausea and lose of appetite due to smells of the rotten bodies but slowly you adapt.
One day, it's your time to become a sentry to guard the friendly lines from getting raids or signaling your friends when there's an attack from the enemy trenches that's not too far from your current location. It was just another routine sentry duty as usual. But you didn't know what was going to happened.
You was standing watch as a sentry while cleaning your rifle when an air dogfight began above the grey skies. You look above as an enemy Zeppelin being attacked by friendly airplanes, while the enemy airplanes try their best to protect the Zeppelin. The situations of course invites another guest as friendly Anti-air cannon began to fire towards the Zeppelin. You watch as the Zeppelin took damage, not knowing that a danger was lurking and ready to strike whenever you did not anticipate it. And it happens. You mindlessly stood up from your positions all while at the same time, the enemy fires their howitzers to pummel your trenchline as an explosion not far from your current location. As the explosion send shrapnels and shockwave around the area, including you as you got hit by alot of shrapnel square in your chest and got push back a few meters.
You slowly lose your conciousness due to the wounds as it makes you bleed faster than you thought. From afar, you can heard your fellow soldiers shouting your name and rush to help you out but it's too late. You're bleeding to death.
Then you slowly gain your conciousness back. But then, something feels off. You wake up in the middle of a bedroom and when you check on your body, your clothes had changed from your muddy uniform into a white pajama made from a cotton. You felt strange about the furniture that doesn't look like a furniture from your era. And just when you about to get off from the bed, the door of the bedroom opened.
