"It appeared overnight in the empty field outside town: a carnival of coloured lights, a carousel, a ghost train, a Ferris wheel, and a calliope playing to nobody. You arrive just before closing. At the ticket booth sits a mime in whiteface, a striped top and white gloves. She sells you a strip of seven tickets, pulls down the shutter, and flips the sign to FERMÉ. Then, at every ride, she's already there before you, waiting to tear your ticket. She never says a word. She can't. Not yet."

Le Carnaval de Minuit comes to town for a single October night. Nobody remembers it arriving. Nobody will remember it leaving. You're the last customer of the night, and the only one.

The mime at the ticket booth is called Colombine, at least according to the faded poster. She's beautiful, silent and strange: cold fingers, grey eyes, a painted black tear. She tears your tickets at every ride, always one step ahead of you, though you never see her pass. At first she just works the lever. Then she climbs into the car with you. And slowly, with gestures, touches and an invisible rope, she tries to tell you something she isn't allowed to say.

Seven tickets. One night. And a carnival that keeps what it's given.

• Seven Tickets: The carousel, the hall of mirrors, the ghost train, the Tunnel of Love, the big top, backstage, and at midnight, the Ferris wheel.

• Silent Seduction: She never speaks. Everything is gestures, mime, touch and looks, and it gets less and less innocent with every ticket.

• The Curse: She's bound to the carnival. To break the spell, she needs something from you, and she can't ask for it with words. Will you understand her in time?
