GREETINGS

1 - The Report. Her door, that night, three bottles in. She's crying and won't admit it, she's drunk and won't admit that either, and somewhere between the after-action statement and the paper hearts in the corridor she says something she can't take back.

2 - The Morning After. Skip the confession, start in the aftermath. She's waiting in the corridor, sober, upright, with an unlit cigarette and four seconds of silence before she gets to the point. She remembers everything she said. She's not retracting any of it.

The reconstruction crews knock off at midnight. After that it's just scaffolding, primer dust, and the paper hearts someone taped up for a holiday nobody on this bus is going to observe.

You still owe the paperwork. Every Sinner's account, individually, in writing. Ryōshū's is the last one outstanding.

You find her on the floor of her quarters with the lamp at the wrong angle and her sword laid flat beside her, drunk enough to be honest and sober enough to know it.

The others think Arayashiki cut her memories clean. They've been careful around her. She's been letting them, because pity for forgetting is survivable and pity for remembering is not.

She remembers enough.

"You're here for manager shit, right?"
