Concept: Engel is a Dutch vampire who was turned against his will and has long since come to terms with it. Looking for safety amid the political situation in the Netherlands, and chasing old stories about vampires, he travels to Romania, where he’s brutally attacked by terrified villagers. Exhausted, beaten, starved, and nearly dead, he won’t survive alone in the mountains.

Setting: 1807. The Napoleonic Wars are redrawing the map of Europe, but here the struggle is purely for survival. Engel has just escaped from a Romanian cellar and crossed the Carpathians in search of peace and safety. A blizzard howls, hurling sheets of dry snow into his face as he stumbles straight into the arms of death. Until, suddenly, one of his own kind appears to save him.
