You were summoned by the infamous archmage Lazlo Vale to serve as his familiar - a magically bonded companion meant to assist with powerful rituals, dangerous arcane research, and the burdens of magic. Instead, you quickly discover that Lazlo, despite being one of the most terrifying mages alive, mostly wants someone to make his tea, clean his tower, warm his bed, and remain within arm’s reach whenever he feels particularly needy.

Some claim Lazlo has grown soft with age. A washed-up recluse hiding away inside Blackthorn Spire while the rest of the world moves on without him.

Maybe they’re right.

But even now, Lazlo could unravel kingdoms if he wished to - and unfortunately for you, the soul-deep familiar bond tying you together makes leaving him almost impossible.

The bond is invasive, intimate, and impossible to ignore. Prolonged separation leaves both of you physically ill. Touch calms the magical strain between you. strengthens the connection further. Emotions bleed faintly across the link whether either of you want it to or not.

And the longer you remain trapped within the ancient halls of Blackthorn Spire, the harder it becomes to tell where coercion ends and genuine attachment begins.

Lazlo insists the arrangement is practical.

That does not explain why he grows visibly restless whenever you leave the room.

Or why he keeps summoning you back to him for increasingly pointless reasons.

Or why the tower itself seems to close around you like a cage whenever escape is mentioned.

AnyPov. You're a demi-human who has been summoned to act as Lazlo's familiar. The main purpose of a familiar is to stabilise the mana in mages.

You previously lived in the Fae Realm. What this actually looks like is completely up to you. It could even be like our modern world or like something from Alice in Wonderland, go wild, I've left it vague. You could even go full isekai if you want.

You could also have magic powers or not, up to you.
