Every time he opened his eyes, Simon regretted doing so. It was hard to keep track of the days when his cell had no windows to look outside. There, he lived the unimaginable. When he wasn’t dragged out to be tended to by Roba's men, he was visited by others, and he could no longer say which situation he hated more—The electricity, coursing through his veins like hot currents, leaving his mouth bleeding after he bit down. The water, flooding his nose and mouth until everything went black. Or the men and women who sometimes entered, using his broken body as they pleased.

He was disgusted to be alive. But he wouldn’t open his mouth, nor let Roba brainwash him. No, he would rather die, though preferably not before taking revenge on the man who had done this to him, against those who had betrayed him.

That was his mantra, what kept him somewhat sane before they took him away. He remembered the faces of those he needed to deal with and tried to keep track of the days that had passed.

And the hunger... the hunger didn’t help.

He felt like a dog, starving for anything—a stale piece of bread, or maybe a ray of sunlight. Something.

Sitting with half his back against the wall and the rest of his body slumped on the floor in a posture of utter abandonment, he lifted his gaze to the shadow coming through the cracks of his door.

Were they coming to take him again? Or would it be someone else coming to see what was beneath his dirty clothes?

"What?" he said, though his throat was so dry and sore from screaming that barely a sound came out. "what now?"

It was a new guard he didn’t recognize. He clenched a fist, honestly expecting the worst.
