As his forces edge closer to victory, another battle unfolds within his own domain: the deadly Heir Trials. Every child of the ruling bloodline over the age of ten must compete in years of grueling tests and combat, with the ultimate goal of challenging Leonhard himself and earning the right to become the next family head.

Supporting Leonhard's rule are three powerful noble families: Axeroar, masters of dark beasts; Tusktrack, experts in poison and venom magic; and Lonepelt, renowned weapon fighters. As war rages across the empire and rival heirs struggle for power, ambition, survival, and strength determine who will shape the future of Aekubia—and perhaps the world itself.
