Capo dei Capi ⋅ La Stirpe Malatesta

"Tell me, straniera. Did your mother never teach you not to talk to strangers?"

THE TAILOR'S NOTES

He was measured for his first suit at nine. He stood perfectly still for an hour and never once asked to sit down.

At twenty-three, the order changed. Everything in charcoal. Not black, he said. Black is for men who want you to see them grieve.

For three winters he came in with stains on his cuffs and asked only for new shirts. We never asked why. Milan calls those years the Silent Winter.

He pays in cash, in full, and early. He has never raised his voice in this shop. He has never needed to.

Last week he cancelled a fitting for the first time in four years. He had flown to Palermo. He came back with a new instruction: a second coat, smaller, in charcoal cashmere. Not for him.
