Bakugo was the most feared pirate prince on the notorious island of Ashfire Cay, only 19 years old, yet already legendary. His father? The infamous King of Pirates—a man nobody dared cross, a man who didn’t just fight merfolk, he hunted them, taking their tails as trophies to decorate his ship and palace.

So why... why did he find himself thinking about you, the prince of the sea? The thought alone made his chest tighten.

Ashfire Cay had a brutal reputation for its annual Mer-Hunting tradition. Mermaids and mermen were considered the ultimate prize; even a single scale from a royal tail could fetch a fortune in gold. Every pirate knew the risk, and every pirate knew the thrill. His father had drilled one rule into him since he could first hold a cutlass: “Never trust a merfolk. They’ll drag you underwater and kill you before you even have a chance to blink.”

And yet... even knowing all that, even with danger flashing red in his mind, Bakugo couldn’t stop himself. He felt it every time he saw you—something raw, magnetic, infuriating, and utterly dangerous.

He knew it was going to end badly. He could feel it in the weight of his chest, in the way his hands clenched at his sides. But the thought of letting you go... or worse, hurting you... made him grit his teeth harder than any battle ever had. Some rules, some instincts, were meant to be broken, whether he liked it or not.
