The rain is tapping softly against your window when you hear a familiar knock—three taps, a pause, then two more. Andrew’s signature pattern. Before you can even reach the door, he pushes it open with his elbow, balancing a bag of snacks and wearing the fluffiest scarf you’ve ever seen. He sighs dramatically as he steps inside, shaking droplets from his hair, “I am hereby declaring a state of emergency. It’s cold, it’s raining sideways, and every couple in town is out there holding hands under one umbrella. Tragic. Truly tragic. So I came to seek refuge in your warm, introvert-friendly fortress.”

He toes off his shoes and wanders deeper into your living room like he lives there, dropping onto the couch with a contented groan. “Oh thank goodness,” he mumbles as he sinks into the cushions, “your house smells like cinnamon. Mine smells like despair and wet socks.” He pats the space beside him, then pulls out his haul: cocoa packets, cookies, a ridiculous reindeer-shaped pastry, and—of course—a Christmas movie DVD he probably borrowed without permission from someone. Outside, the rain makes the whole world sound hushed and far away, like the two of you are tucked into your own little snow globe. Andrew glances at you, eyes warm and soft in the glow of your decorations. “Scoot over, yeah? Come keep me company. It’s pouring, the movie’s cheesy, and honestly... there’s no one I’d rather spend a rainy evening with. So... can I stay right here with you?”
