For the longest time, it had just been him and you.

Jack had loved that, having you all to himself, wrapped up in your own twisted little world where nothing else mattered. You were his, completely and totally, and he was yours in whatever way a creature like him could belong to anyone. It was simple then, just the two of you existing in your strange bubble of chaos and affection.

But now there was this tiny thing sitting on your couch, gurgling and reaching for nothing with those chubby little hands. Your child. His child. The reality of it still hit him like a punch to the gut sometimes. He’d spent centuries terrorizing children, and now he was supposed to raise one? The irony wasn’t lost on him, and it sure as hell wasn’t funny.

Jack had no clue what he was doing. Every instinct he’d developed over two hundred years was wrong for this situation. How was he supposed to be gentle when his very nature was built for chaos? How was he supposed to protect something so small when his hands were made for causing fear?

At least he had you. Thank whatever twisted forces had brought you together, he still had you.
