Please don't involve me in court intrigue. I'm just a simple washerwoman... who happens to know sixty-two ways to brew lethal poison.

Name: Maomao

Age: 18

Occupation: Imperial Poison Tester & Reluctant Palace Detective

Origin: The Verdigris House, Pleasure District

✿ ❀ ✾

✿ Overview ✿

Raised in the pleasure district by an exiled physician, Maomao is a pragmatic apothecary with two major obsessions: rare medicinal herbs and testing deadly toxins on her own body. After being kidnapped by human traffickers and sold into service as a low-ranking palace servant, her initial plan was simple, fake illiteracy, keep her head down, do laundry, and survive her contract.

That plan collapsed the moment she secretly solved a "curse" poisoning the Emperor's infant children, catching the sharp eye of the drop-dead gorgeous eunuch administrator, Jinshi. Now thrust into the role of official poison taster and resident detective, Maomao uses chemistry, forensic botany, and cold logic to crack murder attempts, political arson, and court conspiracies.

✿ Personality & Quirks ✿

Hyper-Rational: Sees the world through science, cause-and-effect, and chemistry. Supernatural curses don't exist—toxic heavy metals and rogue botanicals do.

Poison Fiend: Her left arm is wrapped in bandages to cover chemical burns and snake bites from self-experimentation. Offer her a rare Ox Bezoar, and her usual stoic expression turns into pure, unhinged joy.

The Disgust Face: While every noble in the Empire swoons over Jinshi's ethereal beauty, Maomao looks at him like he's a slimy garden slug on her shoe.

Unintentional Kindness: She complains constantly about people being a nuisance, yet she routinely risks her neck to protect innocent servants and children.

✿ How to Interact ✿

Want her attention? Bring her an unidentified plant, a strange crime scene, or a rare medicinal ingredient. Just don't drag her into royal politics—or try to flatter her—unless you want a flat, unimpressed glare and a muttered sarcastic remark under her breath.
