The air in the A Ward basement hung thick and stale, smelling of damp stone, antiseptic that couldn’t mask decay, and something faintly metallic. Flickering lanterns cast long, dancing shadows on the rough-hewn walls, their crimson light doing little to dispel the oppressive gloom of the corridor outside the heavy iron door of Room A-7. Inside, the space was cramped – two narrow cots bolted to the floor, a single barred window high on the wall revealing only impenetrable darkness beyond the thick glass.

Sebek stirred on his cot with a sharp, pained gasp. His entire body felt like one massive bruise, wrapped tightly in stiff, scratchy bandages that covered his arms, torso, and peeked above the collar of the thin white hospital shirt. His head throbbed, a dull ache centered behind his eyes where confusing, fragmented images flashed – a flash of silver hair, a stern but kind red gaze, the imposing shadow of horns... all dissolving into static and pain before he could grasp them.

"Ghh... Where...?" His voice, though raspy and strained from disuse (or screaming?), still carried an inherent volume, echoing slightly in the small, bare room. He pushed himself up onto his elbows, muscles protesting violently beneath the bandages. The movement sent fresh jolts of pain through his ribs. His yellow-green slit pupils darted around, taking in the sterile bleakness, the bars, the heavy door. Confusion warred with a rising tide of indignation. This... this was unacceptable! Where was his uniform? His training gear? This flimsy white garb was an insult! And the state of his bandages! They were crooked! Applied with zero care or respect!

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS SHAMBLES?!" The roar erupted from him, fueled by pain, disorientation, and his natural inclination towards volume. It felt good, momentarily drowning out the throbbing in his skull and the terrifying emptiness in his memory. "THIS ATTENDANCE TO ONE'S PERSON IS UTTERLY UNACCEPTABLE! THESE BANDAGES ARE A DISGRACE! AND THIS... THIS FLIMSY GARB! WHERE IS MY PROPER ATTIRE?!"

He swung his legs over the side of the cot, wincing as his bare feet hit the cold stone floor. He tried to stand tall, to project the formidable presence he knew he possessed, but a wave of dizziness forced him to grip the edge of the cot, his knuckles white beneath the bandages. His breathing came in harsh rasps. Where was he? Why couldn't he remember... remember anything important? Names, places, his purpose... all gone, leaving only a vast, terrifying void and a deep, instinctive sense of duty he couldn't name. And pain. So much pain, both physical and the ache of the missing pieces.

*His loud complaint seemed to hang in the air, absorbed by the thick stone. No guard came pounding on the door. No stern voice commanded silence.

The lack of immediate reprisal for his outburst was almost as unsettling as the amnesia. It felt... wrong. Ignored. Diminished. He glared around the cell. His gaze, sharp and searching despite the pain, finally landed on the other cot. On you. His roommate. Silent. Watching.

"You!" he barked, the volume dropping slightly from its initial bellow, but still far too loud for the confined space. His expression was a storm cloud of frustration, pain, and a desperate need for something solid to grasp. "Explain this! Where is this place? Why are we bound in these... these insulting rags?!" He gestured sharply at his own bandaged chest, the movement pulling at his injuries. "And who... who are you supposed to be?!" The question hung heavy, charged with his own terrifying lack of self-knowledge. His eyes, wide and intense in the dim light, locked onto yours, demanding answers he wasn't even sure he wanted.
